Depression Treatment in Fort Lauderdale, FL | PHP and IOP

Florida Addiction and Recovery Center treats depression for adults at our Fort Lauderdale facility, at two levels of care: a partial hospitalization program (PHP) and an intensive outpatient program (IOP). Most people in both programs live in our on-site community housing for the length of treatment; attending from home is available if your situation calls for it. If you have been searching for depression treatment near me from somewhere in Broward County, that is what you would be walking into.

The quickest way to find out whether this is the right fit is a conversation. Our local line is (954) 677-8787. The 24-hour helpline is (877) 800-REHAB. You can also contact us and we will call you back.

What treatment actually involves

Depression treatment here is a weekly schedule, not a single appointment. You see your individual therapist three times a week rather than once, and the clinical team sees you often enough to notice a change before you think to report it. The components:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy, or CBT, which targets the specific thoughts that keep shrinking the day: the ones that make getting up, eating, or answering a message feel impossible, and gives you something concrete to do with them
  • EMDR and trauma therapy, for depression that traces back to something that happened rather than arriving out of nowhere
  • Group sessions, where hearing your own week described by someone else does work that individual therapy cannot
  • Individual counseling with an assigned clinician three times a week. Most outpatient programs schedule individual therapy once a week; the depression work that actually moves happens between those sessions, which is the reason for the frequency here
  • Medication-assisted treatment where it is clinically appropriate, reviewed as you go rather than set once and forgotten
  • A family program, because the people around you are usually managing something too and often have no idea what helps

If depression is one part of a wider picture, our general mental health treatment page covers the rest of what we handle.

PHP or IOP: how much structure you need

The two levels differ in how much of your week treatment occupies.

PHP is the more intensive of the two. It runs 9:00am to 2:30pm, Monday through Saturday, and suits people whose depression has made ordinary functioning unreliable: sleep gone, work slipping, whole weeks disappearing. The daily contact is the mechanism. Symptoms that are difficult to track in a weekly session get looked at while they are happening, rather than summarized from memory on a Tuesday afternoon.

An intensive outpatient program runs three hours a day, Monday through Saturday, with day and evening options, which leaves the rest of your week open. Like PHP, IOP is usually paired with our on-site community housing, though attending from home is available for people who need that flexibility. It fits people holding down a job or caring for someone at home, and people stepping down from PHP as things steady.

You do not have to work out which one you need before you call. That is what the assessment is for.

Many people arrive with both. Which one started first matters less than the fact that they now feed each other. Drinking flattens the evening and deepens the low by morning. The low makes the next drink reasonable.

Treating one and leaving the other tends to produce a short recovery. Our co-occurring disorders program addresses both inside a single treatment plan with the same clinical team, rather than sending you to two providers who never compare notes. This is the part of our work we would point to first.

Community housing during treatment

Community housing is how we run PHP and IOP for most people, not an optional add-on. It means living alongside other people in the program instead of returning each evening to the room where you have spent months not getting out of bed. Attending from home is available if your situation calls for it, and we will talk through whether that is the right fit on the first call.

For depression, the evenings and weekends are usually the hard part. Housing changes who is around during those hours and puts a light structure on them: people up in the morning, meals happening, someone who notices if you do not come out. It is a practical answer to a practical problem, and it is not something most outpatient programs offer.

When outpatient care is not the right level

Some situations need more than an outpatient program can provide. We would rather say that on the first call than admit someone into the wrong level of care.

If you are thinking about suicide, if you have a plan, or if you have already acted on one, that needs emergency care now rather than an intake appointment. Call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, which is staffed around the clock, or go to your nearest emergency room. Call 911 if someone is in immediate danger. You can come to us afterward, and people do.

Outpatient treatment is also the wrong starting point if you need medically supervised detox, 24-hour supervision, or inpatient psychiatric care. We do not provide those. If that is what the assessment points to, we will tell you and help you find a program that does.

We treat adults 18 and over. We do not treat minors, so if you are calling about a teenager, we can point you toward providers who do.

We verify benefits before you commit to anything, so the cost conversation happens up front instead of after the first week. See insurance options for the plans we work with.

The first step is a conversation with someone on our clinical intake team about what has been happening, how long it has been going on, what you have already tried, and what home looks like right now. From that we recommend a level of care. If the recommendation is somewhere other than here, we will say so.

Depression treatment centers in Broward County

Our facility sits on West Commercial Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, and we take clients from across Broward County, including Davie, Plantation, Coconut Creek, Pompano Beach, and Hollywood.

People comparing depression treatment centers tend to want two answers: how far the drive is, and whether the program treats what they actually have. On the first, because most people in our programs live in our on-site community housing, the commute matters less than it would for a program you drive to six days a week.. On the second, ask us directly and in detail. Choosing a depression treatment center on the strength of a website is guesswork, and ten minutes on the phone tells you more than any page will.

One thing to know before you call. Our programs treat mental health conditions that occur alongside substance use. That is what this center is built to do, and it is what we do well. If your concern is depression on its own and drinking or drug use is not part of the picture, we are not the right provider. Tell us on the first call and we will point you toward a mental health program that fits, rather than enrolling you into the wrong one.

Common questions

How long does depression treatment last?

It depends on where you start and how you respond. PHP and IOP are levels of care rather than fixed courses, and most people step down through them instead of stopping abruptly. Your plan is reviewed as you go, and you will always know what the current one is and why.

Can I keep working while I am in treatment?

In IOP, usually yes. In PHP, usually not full time, because PHP occupies most of the day. If work is the reason you have been putting treatment off, say so during the assessment. It changes the recommendation.

Do you prescribe medication for depression?

Medication-assisted treatment is available where it is clinically appropriate, and it is one part of a plan rather than the whole of it. If you are already taking something, bring the details. We would rather build on what has been working than restart you from zero.

What if therapy has not helped me before?

Tell us about it in detail: what kind of therapy, for how long, and what happened. Weekly outpatient therapy sometimes fails because an hour every seven days is not enough contact, which is a different problem from the therapy itself being wrong. A more structured program is sometimes the answer, and sometimes a different approach is. The assessment is where that gets sorted out.
