Florida Addiction and Recovery Center treats mental health conditions in Fort Lauderdale for adults, at two levels of care: a partial hospitalization program for people who need daily structure, and an intensive outpatient program for people who need less. Most people in both programs live in our on-site community housing for the length of treatment; attending from home is available for people whose situation calls for it. Most of the people we treat are managing a mental health condition and substance use at the same time.

Conditions we treat
Each of these has its own page with what treatment actually looks like:
- Anxiety, including panic attacks and generalized anxiety that has stopped responding to weekly therapy
- Depression, where structure and daily contact do what a single appointment a week cannot
- Bipolar disorder, both bipolar I and bipolar II, with psychiatric medication management
- PTSD and trauma, using EMDR and trauma therapy
- Co-occurring disorders, where mental health and substance use are treated together rather than in sequence
Why we treat mental health and addiction together
A large share of people who come to us for substance use are also managing anxiety, depression, or the aftermath of trauma. The reverse is just as common: someone arrives for a mental health condition and drinking or using is part of how they have been coping with it.
Treating one and ignoring the other is why some people cycle through treatment repeatedly. If the depression that preceded the drinking is untouched when someone leaves, the reason for drinking is still there.
Dual diagnosis treatment means one clinical team, one treatment plan, and both conditions addressed in the same sessions. Not a referral to a separate provider who never speaks to the first one.

Partial hospitalization program
A partial hospitalization program is the most structured level of care we offer short of 24-hour residential treatment. Treatment runs 9:00am to 2:30pm, Monday through Saturday. Most people in our PHP live in our on-site community housing for the length of the program; attending from home is available for people whose situation calls for it. It suits people stepping down from inpatient care, and people for whom weekly therapy has not been enough to hold things steady.
Intensive outpatient program
An intensive outpatient program runs three hours a day, Monday through Saturday, with day and evening options, which leaves more of the week free. Like PHP, IOP is usually paired with our on-site community housing, though attending from home is available for people who need that flexibility. It works for people who are further along, or who are holding down work or family commitments alongside treatment. Many people step down into IOP after completing PHP.
Community housing
Community housing is how we run PHP and IOP for most people, not an optional add-on. You live with other people in the program rather than returning each evening to the environment where the problem developed. Most of the risk in outpatient treatment sits in the hours outside the building, and this changes what those hours look like. Living from home during treatment is available if your situation calls for it, and we will talk through whether that fits on the first call.
How we treat
- Cognitive behavioral therapy, which works on the specific thought patterns that precede a crisis and gives you something to do when you notice them starting
- EMDR and trauma therapy, for the experiences underneath the symptoms
- Psychiatric medication management, reviewed as treatment progresses rather than set once and forgotten
- Group sessions, where hearing your own situation described by someone else does work that individual therapy cannot
- Individual counseling with a member of the clinical team
- Family involvement, because the people you go home to affect whether this holds
When outpatient is the wrong level of care
Outpatient treatment is not right for everyone. If you need 24-hour clinical supervision, are medically unstable, or need supervised detox before treatment can begin, you need a higher level of care first. We do not provide detox or a licensed 24-hour residential treatment program; our on-site community housing is a place to live during PHP and IOP, not clinical supervision around the clock.

Our facility is on West Commercial Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, and we treat adults from across Broward County, including Davie, Coconut Creek, Plantation, Pompano Beach, and Hollywood. Because most people in our PHP and IOP live in our on-site community housing, distance from home matters less here than it would for a program you drive to every morning.

The first step is a conversation about what has been happening, what you have already tried, and what your situation at home looks like. From that we recommend a level of care. If the right answer is somewhere other than here, we will say so.
One thing to know before you call. Our programs treat mental health conditions that occur alongside substance use. That is what this center is built to do, and it is what we do well. If your concern is a mental health condition on its own and drinking or drug use is not part of the picture, we are not the right provider. Tell us on the first call and we will point you toward a mental health program that fits, rather than enrolling you into the wrong one.
Common questions
Do I need to have a substance use problem to be treated here?
Yes. Our programs treat mental health conditions that occur alongside substance use, and that combination is what this center is built for. If you are dealing with a mental health condition on its own, call anyway and we will point you toward a provider who handles that.
How is outpatient mental health treatment different from seeing a therapist?
A weekly therapy appointment is one hour out of 168. Outpatient treatment at this level means daily or near-daily contact, a group, medication management, and a clinical team that sees how you are actually doing rather than relying on your summary of the week.
Can I keep working?
During PHP, usually not full time, because it occupies most of the day. IOP is designed to leave room for work and family. Many people start in PHP and step down to IOP for exactly this reason.
What happens on the first call?
We ask what has been going on, what treatment you have had before, and what your circumstances are. We verify insurance. Then we recommend a level of care. Nothing is committed to on that call.
